I deleted all software related to Office, and put LibreOffice on. I got rid of the pop-up crazy McAfee and let Windows Defender do the AV thing. It’s my fricking laptop, and here a company won’t let it get set up even without getting an account I don’t want, don’t need, and will never use. The last couple W10 computers I set up, you could do without providing a M$ account (and it was sorta hidden). W11 would not even start the process until I provided a Microsoft account. Then I spent a couple hours getting rid of the bloatware, setting the machine up the way I like, and getting the software I like loaded. It took me a minute to find the damn ON button. It came with Windows 11 and the usual bloatware. I ordered it via the Dell website, and it was delivered four days later. It had a slightly larger display with a lot of good press, 16GB of RAM, and an 8-core i7. I looked at a lot of machines with those specs, and then price, and finally settled on a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus. So my final spec list was essentially an i7 machine, 15″ display, 8GB RAM, and two M.2 solid state drive connections. I started with the specs for the most recent HP company laptop, and quickly found that current machines in even the lower-price categories exceed that.

In the past couple weeks, in prep for some travel over the holidays, I started looking for a laptop to take along. Of course, the last of those was turned in in July. I have had laptop computers issued to me for work by both the Air Force and Northrop Grumman, all nice business class machines.
